TOLEDO, Ohio - Michelle L. Kranz, founding partner of Zoll & Kranz, has been selected to receive the University of Toledo College of Law's 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award.
The University of Toledo Alumni Association announced Kranz as the College of Law's 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient on August 27, 2026.
The annual awards recognize University of Toledo graduates for professional achievement, leadership, and service to their communities.
Kranz earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1993, following her cum laude graduation from Miami University in 1990.
Over the course of more than three decades, she has represented injured individuals and families across a practice that includes personal injury, product liability, mass tort, pharmaceutical, and medical device litigation.
Following law school, Kranz joined Toledo trial attorney David Zoll and later became a founding partner of Zoll & Kranz. Throughout her career, she has been appointed to leadership roles in major multidistrict and consolidated litigation involving defective medical devices, prescription medications, and other claims of corporate wrongdoing.
Kranz has held a series of leadership positions within the legal profession. She served as President of the Toledo Bar Association from 2015 to 2016 and as President of the Ohio State Bar Association during the 2023-2024 bar year.
She currently serves as President of the National Civil Justice Institute, an organization focused on research and education concerning the civil justice system.
Kranz's connection to the University of Toledo College of Law extends back to her time as a student. She participated in the College of Law's Fornoff Moot Court Competition and advanced to a final round judged by a panel that included U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. She has previously credited her experiences at Toledo Law with shaping her decision to pursue a career as a trial lawyer.
Kranz has maintained an ongoing relationship with the College of Law throughout her career, including previously serving as president of the Law Alumni Affiliate.
The University of Toledo has presented Distinguished Alumni Awards since 1939 to recognize graduates whose professional accomplishments and service reflect the impact of a University of Toledo education.
Kranz will be honored alongside the University's other 2026 alumni award recipients at the University of Toledo Alumni Association's Homecoming Gala on Friday, October 9, 2026.
The award recognizes a career spanning more than 30 years of advocacy for injured individuals, leadership in complex litigation, and service to the legal profession in Toledo, throughout Ohio, and at the national level.
