Hemlock Decks, Porches, and Home Additions, a family-owned construction company also operating as Hemlock Contracting, has opened four additional offices, bringing its total to seven locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut. The new staffed offices are in Foxborough and Leominster, Massachusetts, and in Stamford and New Haven, Connecticut, joining existing offices in Worcester and Woburn, Massachusetts, and in Hartford, Connecticut.

The expansion extends the company's coverage from central Massachusetts and the greater Boston area into southeastern and north central Massachusetts and into southern and coastal Connecticut. Each new office operates under the same in-house design and construction model used at the company's Worcester headquarters. The Worcester headquarters covers central Massachusetts, the Woburn office covers the North Shore and greater Boston, and the Connecticut offices cover Hartford County and the state's southern and coastal areas. According to the company, the added locations are intended to reduce travel time to job sites rather than to broaden the range of work it performs.

Composite Deck Build by Hemlock Decks Porches and Home Addition

The company works primarily as a deck, porch, and outdoor living contractor, and keeps design and construction within a single team. It produces 3D design and renderings so a homeowner can review a plan before construction begins, prepares drawings and documentation for permits, and handles permit acquisition. The personnel who develop a design carry out the build.

That structure reflects how the business developed. Owner Teddy Labonte is a second-generation carpenter who worked under another contractor before starting the company with his father. The operation began in general contracting, narrowed to exterior work, and then concentrated on decks and porches.

"We started in general contracting, and over time we settled into decks, porches, and outdoor living," said Teddy Labonte, owner of Hemlock Decks, Porches, and Home Additions. "Adding offices lets us keep that same in-house process as we take on work farther from Worcester, rather than handing projects off to outside crews."

Deck work covers platform, raised, multi-level, rooftop, pool and spa, curved, cantilevered, and covered configurations. Decks are set on helical piers or traditional concrete footings selected according to site conditions and the freeze and thaw cycles common to the region. Framing systems include wood, steel, aluminum, composite, and pressure-treated LVL.

Decking materials cover composite and PVC from Trex, TimberTech by Azek, and Deckorators, along with pressure-treated wood, cedar, redwood, and exotic hardwoods. The company also installs deck railings, deck lighting, privacy screens, and gutter and channel underdeck drainage systems that allow the area beneath a raised deck to be used as covered space. Deck repair and the replacement of existing decks are also part of its work.

Porch work includes covered porches, screened porches, three season rooms, sunrooms, and porch enclosure systems, built in wood, composite, PVC, stone, brick, concrete, and aluminum. Beyond decks and porches, the company builds home additions that include master suites, family rooms, and garages, and provides asphalt roofing, gutters, patios, and vinyl, fiber cement, and cedar siding.

Completed projects span communities across eastern and central Massachusetts, among them Worcester, Auburn, Holden, Shrewsbury, Charlton, Webster, Stow, Douglas, Sturbridge, Franklin, Dedham, Scituate, and Cohasset. Commercial work has included a rooftop deck on a multi-family building in Boston and a commercial renovation on Newbury Street.

The company holds Trex Platinum Installer status and TimberTech Gold Pro status. Both are installer designations that require training, annual recertification, project volume, and inspected workmanship, and both carry manufacturer warranty backing on completed installations. The company is licensed and insured and holds A+ accreditation from the Better Business Bureau.

"The trades that surround a deck project are usually the ones that slow it down," Labonte said. "Keeping roofing, siding, and framing in-house means the schedule does not depend on coordinating separate contractors."

Outside its construction work, the company sponsors a local youth basketball team.

Founded in 2012, Hemlock Decks, Porches, and Home Additions reports more than 10,000 completed residential and commercial projects. The company is led by owner Teddy Labonte and is headquartered at 24 Everard St in Worcester, Massachusetts. Additional information is available from Hemlock Decks, Porches, and Home Additions.
